SUMMARY:Prayer Walk for KC Schools
DESCRIPTION:Claim Your Campus and Caring For Kids KC\, in partnership with Pray KC\, are organizing a city-wide prayer initiative to support and bless our local schools!  \nOn Friday\, May 5th\, we will come together and enjoy a light dinner and community time around the table starting at 6 pm. Then at 7 pm\, we move into a time of worship and prayer together for our schools\, covering our students and teachers in prayer! That will all happen at Macedonia Baptist Church\, 1700 NE Linwood Blvd\, KCMO.  \nMay 6th will be a unified moment is for Christians to show up for our city with love and to pray for God’s protection\, provision\, and peace on each campus. We invite you to participate however you can!  Leaders will lead each group listed below from 9 am-2 pm.  \nEach district list will be split up and covered at two different points of the day.  The first half will be covered from 9-11 am. The second half will be prayed for from 12-2 pm.  \nYou can sign up for one or both slots!  \nOnce you sign up for a prayer walk group\, Claim Your Campus will email you a prayer guide and schedule!

SUMMARY:National Day of Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Because of the faith of many of our founding fathers\, public prayer and national days of prayer have a long-standing and significant history in American tradition. The Supreme Court affirmed the right of state legislatures to open their sessions with prayer in Marsh vs. Chambers (1983). \nThe National Day of Prayer is a vital part of our heritage. Since the first call to prayer in 1775\, when the Continental Congress asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation\, the call to prayer has continued through our history\, including President Lincoln’s proclamation of a day of “humiliation\, fasting\, and prayer” in 1863. In 1952\, a joint resolution by Congress\, signed by President Truman\, declared an annual national day of prayer. In 1988\, the law was amended and signed by President Reagan\, permanently setting the day as the first Thursday of every May. Each year\, the president signs a proclamation\, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day. Last year\, all 50 state governors plus the governors of several U.S. territories signed similar proclamations.
